Job Overview
Blnad County Public Schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated Varsity Head Softball Coach to lead and inspire our student-athletes. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the high school softball program, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture, and promoting excellence in character, academics, and athletics. This role requires a strong leader who can develop players' skills while instilling values of sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Leadership & Development: Provide overall leadership for the entire softball program, including Varsity, JV, and Middle School levels, ensuring consistency in philosophy and skill development.
- Coaching & Instruction: Plan, organize, and conduct effective practice sessions and games, providing instruction in fundamental skills, advanced strategies, and physical conditioning.
- Student-Athlete Welfare & Mentorship: Act as a positive role model and mentor, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, behavior, and well-being, while enforcing all school and team rules.
- Compliance & Administration: Ensure full compliance with all [State League, e.g., Virginia High School League (VHSL)] and school district rules and regulations. Manage inventory of equipment and uniforms, assist with scheduling, and organize team meetings and fundraising efforts.
- Communication & Community Relations: Maintain effective and professional communication with players, parents, assistant coaches, school administration, and the media to build support and promote the program.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Previous coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level is required, head coaching experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of softball.
- Certifications:
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- [State-specific coaching certification, e.g., VHSL certification] required.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate a diverse group of student-athletes.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and travel to away games.
