Position Type: Seasonal Coaching Position

Reports To: Athletic Director and Building Principal

Start Date: Immediately upon appointment

Position Summary

Bland County Public Schools is seeking a dedicated, positive, and student-centered individual to serve as the Middle School Girls Basketball Coach. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing student-athletes both on and off the court by promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, academic success, and personal growth while maintaining a competitive basketball program.

Essential Responsibilities

The Middle School Girls Basketball Coach shall:

• Plan and supervise all practices, games, and team activities.
• Teach basketball fundamentals, sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful team culture.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes.
• Promote academic achievement and appropriate student conduct.
• Maintain communication with players, parents, administrators, and the Athletic Director.
• Comply with all Virginia High School League (VHSL), Virginia Department of Education, and Bland County Public Schools policies and procedures.
• Supervise students during practices, games, travel, and other team-related activities.
• Ensure equipment is properly maintained and inventoried.
• Attend required coaches' meetings and professional development.
• Model professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct at all times.

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

• Knowledge of the game of basketball and coaching techniques.
• Previous coaching and/or playing experience preferred.
• Ability to motivate and mentor middle school student-athletes.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and community members.

Applicants must:

• Meet all School Board employment requirements.
• Successfully complete all required background checks.
• Complete all required VHSL and BCPS coaching certifications and training.
• Maintain current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or obtain upon hire if required).
