The Activity Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students, staff, and equipment to and from extracurricular, athletic, and school-related events. The driver ensures the safety and well-being of all passengers while maintaining compliance with all local, state, and federal transportation laws and school division policies.
Operate a school bus in a safe and lawful manner for field trips, athletic events, and other school-sponsored activities.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure proper mechanical operation and safety equipment.
Follow designated routes and schedules as assigned by the Transportation Department or school officials.
Maintain order and ensure appropriate student behavior on the bus, following school policies and discipline procedures.
Ensure that all passengers are seated and comply with safety regulations at all times.
Communicate effectively with coaches, sponsors, and school staff regarding travel times, routes, and schedules.
Keep accurate trip records, mileage logs, and fuel reports as required.
Report mechanical issues, accidents, or incidents promptly to the Transportation Director.
Ensure the bus is clean and fueled before and after each trip.
Attend safety meetings, training sessions, and required certifications as directed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director or school administration.
Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations related to operating a school bus.
Ability to operate a school bus safely under varying road and weather conditions.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, staff, and parents.
Demonstrated responsibility, reliability, and good judgment.
Ability to maintain a professional and courteous demeanor.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL B) with Airbrakes, School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements.
Must meet all state and federal requirements for school bus drivers, including background check and physical examination.
Work hours vary depending on activity schedules (evenings, weekends, and out-of-town trips may be required).
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally (for luggage, equipment, etc.).
