Plan and supervise all practices, games, and team activities.
Teach basketball fundamentals, sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful team culture.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes.
Promote academic achievement and appropriate student conduct.
Maintain communication with players, parents, administrators, and the Athletic Director.
Comply with all Virginia High School League (VHSL), Virginia Department of Education, and Bland County Public Schools policies and procedures.
Supervise students during practices, games, travel, and other team-related activities.
Ensure equipment is properly maintained and inventoried.
Attend required coaches' meetings and professional development.
Model professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct at all times.
QualificationsPreferred qualifications include:
Knowledge of the game of basketball and coaching techniques.
Previous coaching and/or playing experience preferred.
Ability to motivate and mentor middle school student-athletes.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and community members.
Applicants must:
Meet all School Board employment requirements.
Successfully complete all required background checks.
Complete all required VHSL and BCPS coaching certifications and training.
Maintain current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or obtain upon hire if required).
